Ventless Gas HeatersVentless gas heaters are heating furnaces that do not have an expel air to the outside of the house or building. Instead of using outside air for combustion, the ventless gas heaters rely on air present inside the room. These heaters are much more efficient because they do not exchange air. In fact, they attain an efficiency of up to 99.9 percent. These heaters have been lately gaining popularity because of the good fuel efficiency demonstrated by them. Advantages of ventless gas heatersThe biggest advantage of these heaters is that they are very fuel efficient. This results in a huge savings in fuel expenses. The vagaries of the fuel market normally effects the running expenses of conventional gas heaters. But this does not happen with ventless gas heaters. Because they are fuel efficient, ventless gas heaters are environment friendly. Natural and propane gas are one of the cleanest burning heating fuel. They produce lesser emissions as they burn their fuel sources steadily. Because of their technology no heat gets lost as a result of lack of venting of air outside. This improves the overall heating capacity and time. Different models of these heaters are available today in the market. Each consumer can choose a model which works best for him according to money and space. The different types of ventless gas heaters can be broadly categorized into three:
These heaters are portable unlike fireplaces or furnaces. They don’t have to be permanently fixed anywhere so they offer mobility. These heaters also offer easy refill. Natural gas is commonly available and can be refilled at the nearest dealer. The installation of the ventless gas heater is quite straightforward. No flue or vent is required to be used. These heaters are also very easy to maintain. Very little regular cleaning is required and they are very long lasting with little repairs needed through their lifetime. The Blue Flame Heater These are a type of ventless gas heater that can be either free standing or wall mounted. They get their name from their appearance. These units have a ribbon type burner which when burns, gives a fireplace kind of a look without the gas logs or any other mess related to real wood burning stove. This type of a heater is mostly a convection type heater. Radiant Heater These ventless gas heaters have ceramic or porcelain plates which are
previously drilled for a specific regulated gas flow which then burns the plates
to a red hot temperature which in turn gets radiated to surrounding objects.
This is also a convection heater. |
Gas logs These ventless gas heaters are very similar to the blue flame heaters. These require comparatively more maintenance. Ventless gas heaters, unlike conventional oil or kerosene fired heaters come with more safety controls like oxygen depletion sensors, low pressure controls, tilt controls and thermocouple or pilot generators. Although these heaters have been connected to condensation problems, there are solutions to this. Firstly, a dehumidifier could be added to reduce the overall humidity – this works more efficiently in smaller applications. Sometimes, the condensation problem may not be originating from the heater. The condensation could be a build-up in the structural atmosphere and maybe moved by convection to outer surfaces and then condense on a cold surface. To solve this problem, the principle of psychometrics can be used. This is done by increasing the aspiration of the airflow in the structure. In other words, a complete mixing of the air to dissolve the humid air with the less humid air and then distributing it efficiently throughout the structure will do away with cold spots or condensation spots. This means that improving air flow throughout the structure while using a ventless heater will help in eliminating potential side effects of condensation. Allowing turbulent air to directly hit the ventless gas unit will affect its ability to properly burn its fuel. Recirculation of air by the use of ceiling fans away from the unit or using the blower on the central furnace can bring better results. Most Popular Ventless Gas HeatersWith a large array of models available, there is one for every kind of space or budget. Some of the most popular brands of ventless gas heaters are: •Exterior Fire Places •Comfort Glow Heaters •Reddy Heaters •Master Heaters •Universal Heaters There are unnecessary controversies we hear of regarding
ventless gas heaters. Most of these are due to lack of information regarding
these heaters. Before jumping to conclusions, a thorough understanding of these
heaters is desirable in order to get an objective view on them. | |
